Rose is sending two tickets for the Grand Concert as a gift. Hoping you can came Jan 25th. The next Salon is the 21st and the reception is on Dec 29th. Thanking Mr. M. for giving her work last month. she discuss the deannouncement of the papers he will be reading and the indignation towards a certain "mass". The concert is for the Library Fund benefit for Cameo.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
